Park in the village of Livet. The route starts at Chemin des Sources, near the primary school (signpost 'Miribel – les Clots – Chamrousse'). After crossing a new street, it ends at a waste ground. A signpost 'Miribel' misleadingly points uphill into dense vegetation. Instead, follow a faint track to the right, under power lines. After a few minutes, a path appears on the right of a retaining wall. Entering the forest, it is marked with white and green signs. This path winds between rocky outcrops. It reaches a small plateau where the ruins of Miribel stand as the last traces of a once active rural life. Finally, a few more switchbacks bring the marked path to the cabin. Wooden cabin, well shaded, maintained by local hunters but open to all. The interior, well insulated, is well equipped: two tables, benches, shelves, stove, kitchen utensils, shovels, saw, cassoulet tins,… and a guestbook. An upper floor for sleeping is accessible either from the outside or inside via a staircase and a trapdoor. Nearby water source with unreliable flow. Viewpoint on a rocky platform just above the cabin. A sign in Livet indicates that it is possible to reach Chamrousse on foot. From the cabin, this involves off-trail scrambling through alders and grassy gullies. The best option is to locate by eye the col near the 2061m contour under the Petit Van to find an old balcony trail. Following it left, you pass the Pas des Escombailles before reaching the classic Col de la Lessive near the Croix de Chamrousse. In this wild area, beware of hunters, falling rocks and vipers.
