If you want tranquility and beautiful views, you should avoid, especially in summer, the access from Formiguères via the Serrat de la Calmasella and de Mauri: a track of rocks of all sizes, used by 4x4s or ordinary cars driven by fake Indiana Jones... It is preferable to start from Les Angles, either via the Vallon de la Lladura, or even better (I have tried it) and particularly in autumn, via the Vallon de Vallserra, via the Estany de la Balmeta, the cabin of the same name, then the trail heading north towards Camporells, crossing a kind of steppe dotted with taiga fragments and superb small lakes under the watchful eye of the Peric... It is longer, but it is even better! The refuge is on the GRP Tour du Capcir, accessible from Les Bouillouses or Espousouille. In winter, there is of course a ski lift in Formiguères, but I have no opinion on the matter.
Off-season: Unheated dormitory open for self-service. 4 to 6 places on bunk beds, blankets. In season: 19 dormitory places. A few places in tents available for rent on site. Free bivouac in bivouac areas. 1 single water point at the refuge and a spring 300m upstream on the GRP. 1 outdoor dry toilet. No bins. No shower. Dogs are no longer accepted at the refuge.
