The starting point is the same as for [->1568]. Once you reach the crest of the Grande Dixence dam, just before the cable car arrival station, a trail branches off to the northwest (in a switchback of the track), then climbs west-southwest along the rocky and grassy ridge separating the Dixence from the Chenno stream (Combe de Prafleuri). Another trail departs just after passing the dam (on the track leading up to the Dix hut) and rejoins the previous one around 2430 m. You then continue steadily uphill towards the southwest, always on the right bank of the valley. You approach the stream, cross it on the left bank, and quickly return to the right bank. At this point, I seem to recall a sort of metal duckboard that served as a bridge...things may have changed. A turn to the left (east) reveals, embedded in the rock, a sort of large closed metal door reminiscent of those on shelters (it is in fact a service gallery, likely opened during the dam's construction). The hut is just a little further east.
The old wooden hut has been supplemented by a solid building. There are 30 winter places available. A coin-operated vending machine is present (1.- for electricity, 5.- for wood). Cooking equipment is available, as well as an emergency radio, but the hut is out of reach of mobile phone networks.
