The most common access is from the east, starting from the left bank of the Grande Dixence dam lake, at the level of the La Barma pastures, from where you can climb the ridge of the Rochers du Bouc, heading southwest (blue markings, several chained passages, 15 m of chains on very steep schist slabs before reaching the collet preceding the final ascent to the igloo) and where you reach the snowfields or scree, roughly on the dividing line between the Ecoulaies glacier (north) and the Pantalons Blancs glacier (south). The refuge is on a rocky outcrop, 250 m away to the southwest. If the Ecoulaies glacier (crevassed) is well covered, you can consider using its left bank. Check on site according to conditions. From the west (Plan des Lires), it is better to aim, via scree and a few rocks, for the Pointe du Crêt (3323 m) which you cross to descend briefly northeast via gentle glacier slopes to the refuge.
Indoor equipment: 2 tables + benches, 15 bunks with mattresses, pillows, blankets (+ a few duvets), kitchen utensils in quantity, gas stove, wood stove (to be reserved for emergencies), regular helicopter supply. Outdoor equipment: small annex to the refuge serving as a storage area and containing the toilets. Water at this altitude is in the form of snow/ice. Caution: climbing to the Refuge-igloo is already a climb in itself.
