I accessed this hut 23 years ago via the Col de l'Encombrette, coming from the homonymous lakes, reached themselves from Clignon (Colmars) by bus (Girieux). Then a descent (endless...about 12 km) via the tarmacked road to Allos village.
Open from mid-June to mid-September. No winter room. The road ends at the Laus parking area, about 30 minutes below the hut...leading to predictable crowds in summer. It seems this hut is only guarded in the good season. Check for information. The area is beautiful. Besides the Encombrette lakes circuit, you can go to Cayolle via the Col de la Petite Cayolle, or climb Mont Pelat, the main excursion in the area. Caution!! In winter, access to Lac d'Allos by road is extremely avalanche-prone!!! and its apparent ease (snowshoes) makes it a trap (check snow conditions. In summer, a shuttle is now (2007) available to reach the immediate surroundings of the lake from the last parking area.
