From Mont Saint Martin: to the south, above St Égrève, the hut is reached in 2h30 via a well-marked path. First follow the main path continuing from the parking lot, then, at a ruined mill, turn left onto a narrower path. The ascent is then continuous until the top. Caution: near the top (500 m from the hut), the trail passes close to the edge of a cliff. No problem in summer, but in winter it is better to pass a few dozen meters above. Public transport: Tramway line E from Grenoble city center. Stop at "Karben", then take the road to the left at the climbing rock (church rock). Allow about 1h30 of walking between the stop and Mont Saint-Martin (450 m of elevation gain). Flexo 63 line (bus, from St Égrève train station) serves Mont Saint-Martin. Some schedules require booking (off-peak hours).
Good general condition and well insulated. Make sure to close the door properly using the latch. Facilities: 2 benches and 2 tables, some kitchen utensils, a stove that is quite difficult to light, a saw, a scythe. Close water source (to the right when exiting) covered in winter. Arcosses forest about 100 m (5 min) away. Mobile networks: although at a high elevation, the GSM signal is not strong inside. It is better to move a short distance (max 50 m) westwards, so as to be both in view of the valley but before the Arcosses thickets. Reception and transmission are correct, for voice and data.
