Via forest paths, starting from Col des Cyclotouristes (Venthon, Albertville, then Fort du Mont), or from upstream: Tour du Beaufortain trail (Roche Pourrie, Mirantin, Pte de la Grande Journée).
By way of introduction, let's say that the pictogram on the IGN Top 25 3432 "Albertville" map classified this shelter as an "unguarded refuge"... This claim was a crude joke, or else it reflected the state of the place in the 19th century. The correction has been made in the latest editions. Admittedly, there is space, but that's about all. A (large, if you include the nearby cattle shed) roof, two straw mattresses (in the true sense) of unequal size where up to five people can lie down upstairs. This chalet was once an alpine pasture where cheese was made. The large room, where a stump remains from the crane that once held the cauldron, is now nothing more than a shelter for mice fearing the elements. Draughts guaranteed. No stove, no fireplace, no equipment of any kind. A few empty nooks here and there, with beaten earth floors, resemble the dugouts and shacks reserved for troops in retreat. Water emerges about 50 m to the west, downstream in a small valley (slightly muddy, with algae...: collect it at the source - satisfactory flow on 21/10/2007). The two recently renovated buildings, if one is to judge by their appearance, located further downstream on a terrace, are private and locked. A vast but spartan shelter, to be reserved for the good season or for those with impeccable and high-performance sleeping bags.
