Access

From the East (Tarentaise): Go to Pussy by leaving the N90 at Feissons/Isère, cross Necuday and park at Foyères (not much parking space, but you can find some along the road). Alternatively, you can go beyond the end of the tarmac road (track in poor condition in 2023, better to have a high-clearance car or 4x4) and park in bends of the track or at Charmettes (1350m). From Charmettes, a trail leaves the track to reach the Col de l'Arc. In winter and with snow, the pastoral road is closed upstream of Necuday (barrier + Mayor's order posted) about 500 m from the village and parking is difficult. From the West (Maurienne and Tioulévé): From Montsapey, head to the hamlet of Tioulévé where there is a parking area. Climb to the Col de Basmont. From there, a path along the north face of Mont Bellachat leads to the Col de l'Arc. (Approximately 2h30 walk).

Good to know

Well-equipped hut available to hikers, water nearby, sleeping places with mattresses, table, benches, heating with wood reserve. 17 mattresses (2 in poor condition) but not enough floor space upstairs to lay them all out (possibility to bring some downstairs). Approximately 8 blankets. 2 log saws (one in poor condition) and 1 handsaw. 2 brooms. 3 shovels for digging (2 without handles). Sufficient pots and pans. Varied crockery (plates, cutlery, bowls, one glass, eco-cups). Table with attached benches for 8, 10 if squeezed. For water point see the sheet of [->9445]. Candles, sponges. Dry dead wood is scarce and difficult to access. The space to heat is considerable (sleeping area in half-open mezzanine) and do not expect to be warm, especially as insulation leaves some gaps for icy draughts. Latrines have disappeared. In the north face of Mont Bellachat, snow can be found until June/July.
