Access

From [->2330]. The shelter is located about 1 km as the crow flies north-northeast of the Guide d'Ayas refuge, at the southwest foot of the spur from the west ridge of the Roccia Nera. Two rocky outcrops emerge from the glacier, and it may be possible to pass between them, to the left of a large and long serac wall that blocks the Verra glacier from west to east. The keeper of the [->2330] or the guide offices in Champoluc or Gressoney should be able to provide information on the passage conditions. It can be reached from the Theodul Pass or Testa Grigia, via the glacial plateau bordering the southern flank of the Breithorn, or via the Schwarztor.

Good to know

This shelter is sometimes named after the first names of its dedicatees, sometimes after their surnames. To avoid confusion, it is best to call it the 'Roccia Nera bivouac' or the 'Schwarztor bivouac'. It is equipped with a bunk with blankets, has average insulation (drafts) and crockery.
