Guarded mountain hut located in the Aosta Valley, managed by the Turin section of the Italian Alpine Club. The hut is situated in the municipality of Ayas.

From St Jacques, (1700 m.) at the end of the Ayas valley, a gravel road runs north. It is officially reserved for herders and local residents...But rules and reality are as flexible as anything else. Shortly after the first bend, a mule track branches off to the left (signpost), crosses the stream (Blanchard bridge) and climbs to the Fiery alpine pasture, then turns right and rejoins the small road at the Plan de Verra inférieur pastures; at the end of the plain, a bridge (2088 m.) crosses to the opposite bank of the stream coming from the Grand Glacier de Verra. Follow this path in switchbacks and along the right bank of the stream from the Petit Glacier de Verra until Plan de Verra supérieur (2382 m.). Another bridge, then the end of the road, which turns into a trail after another bridge. This trail approaches the large moraine separating the two glaciers, climbs along its crest and arrives at the flat area where the hut stands. From St Jacques, the hike takes about 5 hours. Wooden hut, a rare sight, built in 1934. It appears to have been enlarged and modernized. Winter quarters for 16 people. A website is under construction, but you can get an idea by visiting this page on inalto.org, which is also very well done and provides comprehensive information about the entire Aosta Valley. I did not go any further. The surrounding glaciers, quite unstable, require excellent visibility to approach the available routes. Most mountaineers now head to [->2330]
