The Cabane Bordier is a guarded mountain hut located in the Valais region, managed by Nathalie Werlen. It is publicly owned and situated in the municipality of Sankt Niklaus.

From Ried (Grächen) at 1662 m, on the right bank of the Mattervispa slightly downstream of Sankt Niklaus, a path heads south and crosses the Riedbach gorge via a bridge, then climbs in switchbacks on the left bank of the stream, passing through the Alpja alpine pasture (2099 m). Follow the moraine along its crest, then scree slopes up to around 2800 m. There, you reach the glacier (Riedgletscher), which must be crossed (posts are usually in place) depending on its shape and crevasse distribution. A large cairn should mark the far bank as a reference point, and the hut becomes visible (hence the benefit of making this crossing once the glacier is fully exposed). Allow at least 4h to 4h30 from Ried. Paths reportedly exist on the other bank: complicated, exposed to rockfall, unpleasant.
Stone-built hut. Guarded in principle from late June to mid-September. Rates and details are available on the hut's website. Access to the Klein- and Gross-Bigerhörner, then to the Balfrin without setting foot on the Riedgletscher, which is tricky in its lower half. Some climbers head to the Ulrichshorn or the Nadelgrat...alternatively, the [->1493] route may be preferred, depending on conditions. Details in this pdf document.
