I assume that no one will use a cable car section to leave Zermatt (to get there, see the remarks on the page for [->2210]), its cables, funiculars, rack railways, etc...Go to the SSO end of the village and take the mule track (signposted) which climbs via the hamlet of Zmutt (1936 m.) along the left bank of the Zmuttgletscher, passing through Bodmen, Chalbermatten (2105 m.), a short zig-zag to cross the outlet of the Arben Bach where you will reach the moraine, and then follow it to the terrace where the hut stands. It will take 4h30/5h. Throughout the walk, you will be under the gaze of the Sphinx...the Matterhorn, and it has quite a face on its north face...so, if you have time, the weather is fine and your pack isn’t too heavy, it is advisable to take a detour when leaving Zermatt via the Rothornhütte trail (via the Trift), and once you reach the Alterhaupt alpine pasture, take the small path heading left towards the S/SW which climbs the ridges of Höhbalmen (at Ufem Hohlicht, 2675 m. exactly) and then heads out on a balcony to rejoin the normal route near Arben; this involves a descent of 400 m. but the views, the wildflowers, etc. are worth it. You may not have the energy to do this on the way back after a climb...
The Schönbielhütte is something of a golden-age myth in Zermatt, compared with many others that have been overrun by tourist hordes. People come here to admire, in addition to the Matterhorn, the ice armour of the Dent d'Hérens and all the tempting features surrounding the Zmuttgletscher cirque: Dent Blanche, Tête de Valpelline, etc.
