From Calacuccia via the Mare à Mare Nord trail (or from Casamaccioli via the Bocca à a Croce drivable track), then the long ONF forest track serving the Melo forest. From Corte, approximately 3 to 4 hours of hiking via the Mare à Mare Nord trail (marked with cairns) ascending the Tavignanu gorges to the Russulinu footbridge. From the bridge, stay on the left bank on a marked trail (indicated on IGN maps) that climbs in switchbacks to the Melo forest and the MF. Also possible via the trail loop ascending to the Arche, the Padule and Conia shepherd huts, then in front of them a vague forest trail indicated on IGN maps.
Status as of late October 2023: - Waterproof roof, door and windows in good condition. - Chimney in the main room draws well. - Large sleeping area under the roof, accessible via a staircase and a trapdoor. - Some firewood under the exterior awning and inside, kept dry. - Some leftover food: coffee, sugar, condiments, soups, etc. - Small furniture inside (table, benches, chairs) and a picnic table outside. - In the room reserved for the ONF, a double bed with three stacked mattresses. - Fence collapsed. Mobile network available 100 meters to the south, at the end of the forest track: climb onto the few rocks overlooking the valley. Source d'Argentu nearby.
