The first part of the path from Ailefroide is identical to that used for the Refuge du Pelvoux, up to the fork at 1993 m on the left bank of the Celse Nière torrent. From there, continuing west, the trail climbs steadily until reaching the base of a large promontory (around 2250 m), which is approached from the right, then bypassed on the left to arrive at 2500 m near the new refuge. A small path then continues steadily uphill towards the west-northwest to reach the wooden cabin, built in 1957, on a small terrace. Allow 4 hours 30 minutes from Ailefroide.
This hut is not guarded, only monitored. It serves as a winter refuge. Bunks with mattresses, table, benches. No other facilities (no heating, no running water). Elevated position with better panoramic views than the new refuge. Solitude is generally assured. Base for classic climbs in the Sélé basin: Ailefroides, Pic-sans-Nom, Boeufs Rouges, Pte du Sélé, etc. It is advisable to check with the Briançon section of the CAF to confirm if it is open when planning your trip.
