Starting from Ailefroide, follow the small road which quickly turns into a track and then a trail heading southwest along the left bank of the Celse Nière stream (signposts and markings). The route is very pleasant through the forest up to around 1750 m, where it gives way to clumps of alders, then patches of meadow struggling to hold their ground against rocks and scree. The alluvial fan that you ascend is a bit steeper until the fork (point 1993 m). Turn sharply northeast and cross a long succession of terraces, small ridges and scree slopes via numerous zigzags, carefully exposed full south and completely devoid of shade. After passing the old Puiseux shelter, you reach the bend where the trail forks with the Sélé Refuge. You'll be hot, huh? So set off as if for a climb: early. In any case, unless your name is Daudet (not Alphonse, Lionel), it will take you 3 to 5 hours from Ailefroide, depending on your load. You remain permanently on the left bank of the couloir following the Glacier de l'Homme (sinister, the couloir is beaten by falling stones...).
