Sector of the right bank of the Valpelline. Thirty years ago, one could park as one could near the village of Dzovenno, then head north to Ruz and from there take a trail (yellow markings, with numbers 1 and 2) northwest towards a larch wood, then turn northeast to cross the Crète Sèche stream and continue northeast through meadows and mixed trees on the right bank of the Moulin stream to the Berrié alpine pasture (2192 m). Then, a sharp left turn towards the west, practically zigzagging with bumps and hollows until reaching the Crète Sèche valley, before which you had taken a right at a switchback junction towards [->1708], which must be passed. On the left bank, you climb up a small rise in the Crète Sèche valley to reach a vague flat area (Plan de la Sabla) almost level with the shelter, which stands on the opposite bank on a small terrace. All that remains is to cross the stream. It will take between 3 and 3.5 hours...or longer if your pack is full of ropes, carabiners, quickdraws and other cams.
Since 1978, a solid refuge ([->1708]) has been built (inaugurated in 1980) in the area, but lower down at the top of the grassy promontory leading north: the markings (yellow arrows and lines + numbers) will help you get there. This latter fact refers to the cases of overcrowding that were already frequent (especially in August) in the bivouac shelter, a metal structure lined internally and built in 1966. Bunk beds with mattresses and blankets. Table (not very large), benches, small equipment. No heating. Water is 50 m away.
