From the village of Torgnon on the right bank of the Valtournenche, you can optionally continue by road to the hamlet of Septumian (1673 m), then a small pastoral road will climb through the woods, via Chantorné, to a barrier (inn nearby). From there on foot, or reach Alpe Châtelard to a fork. Take the ascending branch, which makes two switchbacks, then progresses a bit in roller-coaster fashion to a flat area near a bridge over the stream (around 1900 m: you are 10 km from Torgnon). Trail marking: n°8 in black on yellow background. Do not cross: a path will climb on the left, then level off passing by Alpe Château (2084 m), go back into the woods, skirt Alpe Grotte de Loup (2161 m), climb while keeping to the right and cross the torrent of the combe d'Erbion, then continue NW to the shelter, located south of the homonymous lake. Stone cabin with galvanized sheet metal exterior and wood paneling inside. Photos can be seen on this page. Water in a small fountain near the shelter. A stove (WARNING: no twigs around, you must gather firewood in the forest and carry it up!). Bunks with mattresses and blankets. Good insulation. Dishes and small accessories, 1 broom. Nearby hikes: Dôme de Tzan (Cian on maps), Redessau; connection to [->1566] via Fenêtre de Cian.
