Before coming, check access conditions from Pré de Madame Carle: recurring floods of the torrents lead to road cuts, parking flooding, disappearance of footbridges, etc. From Pré de Mme Carle (road terminus coming from Ailefroide), a marked and well-trodden path climbs northwest, then when it reaches steeper slopes, northwards in zigzags first on the right bank of the St Pierre torrent (outlet of the Glacier Blanc), then on the left bank. The crossing of the torrent has changed over time...when the terminal tongue of the Glacier Blanc descended at the start of the gorge, the rungs on the left bank were few...Things must have evolved and one probably crosses further upstream now. Follow the broad path, passing the former Tuckett hut, then the Glacier Blanc hut. The path gently curves northwest, then west, as you set foot on the ice. The "suture" point was previously around 2850 m. You pass the foot of the descending promontory of Neige-Cordier and bear right, climbing towards the rocky outcrop where the hut is built. Beware! in fog, bad weather and/or without a trail, some end up halfway to Roche-Faurio.
